The evolution of CGI in modern cinema: from Jurassic Park to the Marvel Universe

Computer-generated imagery, or CGI, has evolved dramatically since its early days in film. Some might say it began with "Tron" in 1982, but it wasn't until "Jurassic Park" in 1993 that CGI began to show its true potential. Steven Spielberg's depiction of dinosaurs was so lifelike that it set a new benchmark in filmmaking.

Fast-forward to today, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) boasts some of the most advanced CGI ever seen. But the evolution of CGI isn't just about making things look more realistic. It's about how it enhances storytelling and brings otherwise impossible scenarios to life. James Cameron’s "Avatar" is another milestone, pushing CGI to new limits in terms of creating an entirely different world.

However, not all perfections lie in technological advancements. Sometimes, the marriage of practical effects and CGI works best, such as in "Mad Max: Fury Road". From realistic dragons in "Game of Thrones" to de-aging actors in "The Irishman", CGI continues to revolutionize the medium. The technology is ever-evolving, with VR and AR paving the way for the next frontier in storytelling.
